Seattle Traffic Lawyer | School Zone Speeding

You were running a little late, and you didn't see any police officers around. And the kids were well into school already. Why have that 9:00 a.m. school zone time if everyone is already in school at 8:00? So you breeze on through at 30 mph and are doing fine until you see the flashing lights in your rear view mirror. Now you have a Seattle school zone infraction speeding ticket, and aren't sure what to do about it. Should you hire a Seattle traffic lawyer?

The law is pretty clear - they want where children are to be safe. RCW 46.61.440 is a Washington State statute directly related to school zones. If there is a crosswalk designated with the standard signs showing it is a school zone crossing, within 300 feet on either side of it you may not exceed 20 mph. Also, where kids will be can be made into a school zone, where the speed limit can't exceed 20 mph on 300 feet of either side of the school zone. If you violate either of these rules the fine is double the fine for a regular speeding infraction.

What is the moral of the story? Try not to speed in school zones. But if you do, don't just pay the fine, call a Seattle traffic ticket lawyer to help. We may not necessarily be able to beat your Seattle speeding ticket, but we have the knowledge and expertise to examine your infraction from every angle and present a defense on your behalf that should at least give you a fighting chance.

Thanks for reading the Seattle Traffic Lawyer Blog. Keep up the good fight!
